Verbier?s rise to fame and exceptional popularity in recent decades has mirrored that of M?ribel in France or, even more recently, Whistler in British Columbia. It is very much one of the ?in? destinations of the late twentieth century and it?s not hard to see why. The resort has it all; a huge ski area with a vast vertical, topped with a glacier for reliable, year-round skiing and boarding; an authentic Swiss village with chalet-style architecture and great mountain scenery above and action-packed night life with excellent off-slope facilities.
These combined attractions draw skiers from all over the world, with 60% of guests coming from outside Switzerland, but with a far better and wider international mix than many other international resorts. North American, German, French, Benelux, Dutch and Scandinavian guests all figure prominently.
The 4 Vall?es is Switzerland?s largest lift-linked ski area and one of the world?s biggest, with 400km (250 miles) of trails and a tremendous vertical of 2509m (8239 feet). It is sometimes possible to ski down to Le Chable down in the valley if snow conditions are good. The other linked resorts are Brusson, Nendaz, Le Chable, Les Collons, Mayens de Bruson, Mayens de l'Ours, Thyon 2000, La Tzoumaz (Mayens-de-Riddes) and Veysonnaz.
