Gstaad is one of the world's top resorts, with a wonderful selection of on and off-slope facilities. Accommodation standards in the village are legendary and include three five star hotels, one of which is the famous Palace.
The resort's main street, packed with luxury designer boutiques, was pedestrianised in 1997. The apres ski scene is equally cosmopolitan with a number of exclusive night spots, high caliber bars and over 50 restaurants serving local specialties such as 'Suura Mocka' or 'Hobelkasse' as well as international cuisine. There's also a casino in the resort.
Although skiing is secondary to many of Gstaad's guests, the resort is very well connected to a wide range of ski areas on the Ski Gala Pass, Switzerland's largest. This covers the whole Gstaad Superski area (250km/156 miles of runs in the area) and resorts such as Adelboden and Villars beyond.
Sunny local slopes, suiting beginners and intermediates primarily, are found at Lauenen, reached by bus from the town. There are nursery slopes by the village on the road over to Diablerets with a gondola going up the Wispile, from which there are a choice of red or black descents back down.
