Mount Tcheget - also known as " Cheget " - is one of Russia's largest ski areas. It is close to Mount Elbrus, Europe's highest peak, which boasts year round skiing. It is possible to say in the Balkan valley, between the two. The holiday resort of Prielbrusye is the best equipped place to stay in the region.
Despite a recent influx of capital, there's still an antiquated lift infrastructure and a very frontier feel to Cheget. Ticket prices for the three chairs and two drag lifts and ludicrously low for hard currency holderrs, who can also afford to queue jump. The "Cheget" double chair lift has two stages. The first rises to the station "Ai" ("Moon" from Balkarian) over a change of altitude of 650 m with a descent back down of 1.6km. The total length of the ski runs is around 16 km (10 miles), the longest one is "Stary Krugozor" - "Azau" - at 2.5 km. All runs are marked and prepared by snow groomers.
There are several hotels in Prielbrusye as well as and two 'tourist camps' and mountain huts. The three star Hotel Cheget has 8 floors, with 307 hotel beds. Facilities include a medical service, lifts, restaurants, bars, cafes, a cinema, tennis-court, sport areas, a pool table, sauna, parking lot, ski-store and a rental store. Rooms have shower, toilet, satellite TV radio, and fridge. The Cheget cable car base station is nearby. There's also a small market of local Caucasian traders on site.
