Hemsedal
03 април 2007
One of Norway's leading resorts, Hemsedal boasts some of the country's most testing terrain and has been the site of a World Cup Super Giant Slalom. It is attracting more skiers from further afield every season as Norway's prices become generally affordable and skiers seek the highest quality experience on the slopes.

Because of its northerly latitude the resort has an enviable snow cover record with reliable skiing from November to May. Snow cannons cover 25% of the key terrain in any case. The lift infrastructure is modern, with the 15 lifts including four quad chairs serving runs of up to 6km (4 miles) in length. Two slopes, in total 3.2km (2 miles) in length are floodlit several evenings a week for night skiing. A top choice for snowboarders with its two half pipes of up to 100 metres in length and two quarter pipes. Telemarkers get a warm welcome in the country where downhill skiing was born with this technique and cross-country fans will find over 220km of marked trails.

The small but friendly village, which markets itself as 'The Scandinavian Alps' offers high quality accommodation, facilities and ever improving deals for families with young children. Admission to the excellent Trollia Kindergarten is free when their parents purchase a lift ticket of 3 days or more, and the Trollia also provides free safety helmets for children. Children up to age 7 ski free.

Off the slopes there are a good choice of cosy bars and disco-pubs, the Garasjen is normally especially lively. You can also try dog-sledding, ski-orienteering, take a sleigh ride, go horse riding or ice climbing or perhaps take an excursion on the snow train to Sognefjord on the famous Fl?m train.
