One of Austria's top resorts and the largest community in the Tyrol, Mayrhofen has managed to retain the ambience and architectural integrity of a traditional Tyrolean village. It is located in the wide and very beautiful Ziller valley which attracts visitors year round. The resort's main local skiing area is on the Penken, linked to the edge of the resort by a gondola. A ski bus runs every 15 minutes linking to a second gondola which accesses the Penken, the Horbergbahn and a cable car up to the resort's second ski area at Ahorn. The Ahorn area is popular with beginners as it has almost exclusively easy slopes around the top. However the famous 5.5 KM (3 mile) long Ebenwald slalom trail is found here. The local ski area is extensive, but the Super Zillertal pass increases the maximum terrain to 452 km including the Hintertux glacier. Mayrhofen has much better than average off-slope attractions. The resort's apres ski scene is one of the livliest in the Alps with a wide range of bars and discos. Names that crop up in numerous reviews include the Sport Arena Disco, Niki's Schirmbar, Scotland Yard and the Movie Bar. | Vertical Drop: | 6137 ft
