A town for over 600 years prior to the development of skiing, Schladming has a life of its own beyond winter sports, although snow still dominates. The town is a lively place with good hotels and restaurants (some in old buildings of great architectural merit) and a lively nightlife scene. As well as being the local regional capital, Schladming is located at a T junction of ski resorts which are all on the Dachstein Ski Paradise lift ticket. Pruggern and Haus are located on one side while Pichl Mandling is found across the way but they are linked via a lift system. Each resort features extensive snow making to ensure late season coverage on their north-facing slopes. Additionally, in a side valley above Schladming is the ski area of Ramsau as well as the year round lifts on the Dachstein Glacier. All are linked by a bus service which is included in the price of a lift pass. Above Schladming itself, visitors find two ski areas, linked by the Planai West chair lift -- which actually goes through a tunnel! | Vertical Drop: | 6416 ft
