Obergurgl is well known to skiers worldwide thanks to its long standing in the history of the sport and its status as one of the more picturesque and peaceful Alpine villages, set in the spectacular grandeur of the Oetztal Tirol. But not everyone realises there are actually three Gurgls - Untergurgl (or "Under gurgl"), Hoch Gurgl (or High Gurgl) and the famous Obergurgl. Another little known fact is the altitude of Obergurgl itself - it is one of the highest genuine villages in the Alps at 1930 m (5900 feet). Thanks to the long natural-snow season and extensive snowmaking, the area's big vertical is skiable all season. The "Top Express Gurgl" is an 8-seater gondola links the various areas and offers spectacular views of the surrounding glacier mountains during the eight minute journey. Quad chairs from the center of Obergurgl also provide access to the ski area and the new gondola, as well as increasing the opportunities for slopeside skiing for Obergurgls guests. | Vertical Drop: | 4201 ft
