Kirchberg In Tyrol
Saturday, 31 March 2007
Kirchberg is situated over the back of the mountain from Kitzbühel, so in theory you can reach the famous resort's terrain without any lift bottlenecks or having to pay the "top resort" prices. Located 6km (4 miles) away from its famous neighbor, Kirchberg is big and not inexpensive. The once peaceful village has a lively center with plenty of happening nightspots and a busy feel. In many ways, it is the mirror of Kitzbühel but without the pretentious side of its neighbor's sometimes cosmopolitan clientele.

The resort has its own ski area on the Gaisberg, ideal for beginners. Although lift-linked to Kitzbühel, the lifts go on to join other resorts also, including Aschau, Aurach, Jochberg - Pass Thurn and Mittersill. With 200km (125 miles) of trails, this is one of the largest linked ski areas in the world, with a ski bus service covering the roads between the resorts included in the pass.

All that's just the tip of the iceberg for those with their own transportation because skiers can now purchase the Kitzbüheler Alpen Ski Pass, good at about 30 ski areas in the Region, some lift-linked, others not, but together offering up to 680km (425 miles) of trails.
