Galtur
31 март 2007
Galt?r is a traditional, picturesque Tyrolean resort which is at an unusually high altitude by Austrian standards, 1584 metres (5197 feet). Part of the huge Silvretta Ski Pass Region, it?s bigger and better known neighbor, Ischgl, 10km (6 miles) away, is accessed by a free ski bus and has approximately 200km of lift-linked terrain crossing over the border to Switzerland, above Samnaun. Although Ischgl itself is lower than Galt?r, the skiing goes higher, up to 2872 (9422 feet), including a big "Whistler-sized" vertical.

Galt?r?s own skiing is on the Ballunspitze Massif, which is 2km (1.25 miles) from the village center and also reached by ski bus. Most of the skiing here is for beginners and intermediates although there are some challenging runs down into the Kopsalpe ski bowl which takes skiers over the regional boundary from Tirol to Vorarlberg. The trails include a challenging 3.5km (2 mile) black run.

The village itself is comprised of about 20 large chalet-style hotels, mainly three and four stars and most offering better value than in Ischgl. There is also a modern sports centrer with indoor pool, toboggan run and plenty of other activities to try such as paragliding and snowcat tours.
